What is ULCC
The University of London Chamber Choir (ULCC) is a high standard, dynamic and expressive choral ensemble based in Bloomsbury, London. We are student-run but professionally directed under the expert baton of our conductor, Quintin Beer. We rehearse during term time on Tuesday evenings at 6:30 to 8:30, and aim to perform 10 - 12 concerts throughout each academic year.
Our group of 30 singers are students and alumni mainly from colleges and institutions within the University of London. However, we are unique among other university choirs in that we open our membership to all students and alumni of any London-based higher educational institution. Our members come from all around the world, and together make up a choir that encompasses many different cultural, religious or non-religious backgrounds, and orientations and identities.
We choose our repertoire from an extensive variety of sacred and secular music, from the Early Renaissance to the Modern Day and make several performances throughout the academic year. Our 2019-2020 season included three concerts at St George's Bloomsbury, and Evensong at Holy Trinity Sloane Square. We have also made other ventures such as an appearance on BBC Radio 1's Gemma Collins Christmas Podcast and singing carols in Holborn Underground Station raising money for charity.
Where do we rehearse and perform?
We rehearse during term time, on every Tuesday evening at 6:30-8:30 at Student Central, Malet Street, Central London (close to Russell Square, Goodge Street, Euston Square and Warren Street tube stations).
We aim to hold 3 - 4 concerts each term, at different venues across Central London. On concert days we hold a rehearsal at the venue in the afternoon.
The high standard and success of our choir rests on the commitment of its members. Therefore attendance at these rehearsals and concerts is compulsory.
We accept that sometimes difficulties or clashes arise, and if this is the case, we ask that you let us know in advance so that we may plan ahead.
Our less formal events and tours are most often held on a voluntary basis.
